The line eventually moved from the street and fed into a labyrinth in the Board Room. We were one of 452 couples who were issued marriage licenses on this day. The waiting time was about 3 hours. We had a chance to talk to the couple in line behind us. They have a 9 year old son. One of them was adopted in 1958 and was raised by a lesbian couple. One of the mothers adopted her as a single parent and was the first "single" woman to be allowed to adopt in the state of Oregon. Both of her mothers have passed away, but she said they would be dancing in the streets at this day. |
