Let the Sun Shine...

OK - after countless attempts at posting a blog update from my phone and from Sheryl's phone, we realize that technology isn't quite where it needs to be to allow for remote posting of blogs. (Not to mention we're tired of cramping our fingers as we type and type only to lose the drafts when we can't save changes.) Alas, we broke down and paid for internet access at our hotel to update you on the latest travels of the Anderson family. Of course, as luck would have it, firewall issues are preventing us from posting photos so you'll have to do with my dialogue instead...

We are in San Diego this week - enjoying the warmer weather and lots and lots of sunshine, which is serving to raise spirits and replenish our Vitamin D reserves. Despite the fact that we're all at different stages of fighting off colds, we're having a great time enjoying just being together and doing cheesy tourist activities.

So far this week we have ridden a carousel, hopped on and off countless tourist trolleys, visisted the San Diego zoo, and walked along the bay. Kennedy has adapted well to her new vacation schedule which includes sleeping in late (until 8a) and playing hard until crash time (nap time) around 3pm or so. Late naps also yield the benefit of getting to stay up late too.

Cool things that Kennedy is doing lately...
- Refering to herself as 'me' instead of a third person 'Kennedy'
- Obsesses with the movie Monsters Inc. We have one of those small portable DVD players and she loves to watch Monsters Inc. over and over and over...
- Jumping down stairs (with assistance). She's always loved to run - and now jumping is a new skill we're working on.
- Talking a ton - we're really working hard on language and using words to express herself.
- Technical aptitude - Kennedy can just about figure anything out - whether it's how to work the DVD player, the etch-a-sketch, lamp knobs, etc. We're thinking of having her try to troubleshoot these firewall issues for us - but alas, it's time for dinner instead.

Where's Stacey?

We saw Stacey off bright and early Thursday morning. Kennedy was still sleeping and when she got up later in the morning she searched all over the house for Stacey. "Where's Stacey?"

This has been one rough week at our house. Susan had a severe cold - one of those that puts you literally in bed for a day and a half. Then I picked it up. We sent Kennedy to the Grandparents in hopes that she wouldn't get it too. Today we are leaving for a family vacation and will be gone for about a week. We hope that going into a sunshine state will both fun and healing for us. Some friends of ours are going to stay at the house with Elle the cat.

Foil Wrapped Leftovers in the Shape of Animals

We went to Montage to eat varoius versions of mac and cheese last night. Some of us opted for the chicken fried steak, cheese grits and succotash though. Good stuff. Here's a very low light picture of Stacey and C.K.

Kennedy liked the foil wrapped leftovers in the shape of animals. She had a mouse, a squirrel and a kitty. Stacey got a rabbit. Here's Kennedy blowing raspberries at the animals.

This morning about 4 a.m. Kennedy got sick. When we came downstairs later we found out that Stacey was sick too. Bother! We sent Kennedy to the Anderson Grandparents and wiped the house down. Both Kennedy and Stacey are faring better this evening.

Sisters

Stacey and Kennedy sure enjoy their time together. Stacey is in her second year of a 4 year Masters program in traditional chinese medicine and has a small break between sessions.

We're all trying to get as much snuggling in as possible before she has to leave in a few days.

Good News, Bad News, Sad News

Kennedy and I popped up early this morning. We had breakfast and watched Thomas the Train and pretty soon we'll prepare for the trip to pick up Stacey from the airport today. That's the good news.

Kennedy spent some time drawing a picture for Susan who is in bed not feeling well. That's the bad news. I was sick with the same stuff on Friday night and Saturday but am finally out of bed today--that's more good news along with the fact that Kennedy seems not to have picked up whatever it is that is plaguing us.

Kennedy says these are "turtles".

The other really sad news is that at our regular ob visit last Friday our Dr. was unable to find the baby's heart beat. A follow-up ultrasound confirmed that the baby had stopped growing. :-(

Tea Party

Susan and I went on a Valentine's Day outing last night to see Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. It was an entertaining evening, particularly the Swan Lake spinoff. Kennedy spent the evening with Uncle C.K. and had a grand time as usual.

Tonight she's been playing away with her tea set drinking apple juice and eating some Newman's O cookies.

When I asked her to look up for a picture she replied "I'm busy playing." Ha. Here she is drinking from one of her cups.

Marking Os

We went to Ruby's Diner with our dear friend Holden while in the Seattle area. While we were visiting, Kennedy used her blue crayon to find and mark all of the Os on the paper.

Kennedy in Seattle

This past weekend my company hosted its annual black tie event in Seattle so Kennedy and Sheryl joined me for the weekend. We had a great time seeing friends, eating great food, and generally just enjoying life away from it all.

Good friends Brian and Kelli came and watched Kennedy while Sheryl and I went out for the big party. Luckily, Brian’s camera hasn’t suffered the same fate as ours so he’s been gracious enough to share the following lovely shot of Kennedy.

Here are Kennedy and Kelli having fun together before it was time to head off to bed. Kennedy had a great time playing with Kelli and Brian and was quick to show them all of her tricks (playing, playing and more playing).

Little Reader

We spent the weekend in Seattle but didn't venture too far from our hotel as we are all still feeling a little under the weather. There was a bookstore close by so we took advantage of its reading space for children.

Kennedy could have stayed there all day.

Morning Ohs

The camera on my cell phone isn't that bad really. It works in a pinch. Here's a shot of Kennedy eating breakfast.

She's feeling better though the antibiotics are hard on her digestive system.

PIckle Pickle

Kennedy spent yesterday with her Grandma Anderson. Today she is at home and feeling much better.

Her cold is altering her speech a bit. Last night she said she wanted to sing "Pickle, Pickle". This is a song I didn't know so I asked her to sing it for me. She sang "Twinkle Twinkle little star..." Ha!

SuperBowl, Eye Goobers, and more...

This is shaping up to be a weekly tail-between-the-legs empty-handed update. I suppose you'll have to be satisfied with my attempt at wit - for we have no photos to share. (sigh)

We had a nice weekend this past weekend although Kennedy started to show signs she was getting a bit sick. Pink eye has been floating around daycare - so imagine our chagrin at 5pm on Friday when we picked up Miss Kennedy with eye goobers. Luckily, the eye doctors are open on Saturdays and we whisked her there first thing on Sat. AM.

Alas, no pink eye - just conjunctivitis. With trepidation, I mentioned to the doc that this is usually what would happen in the 'old days' when Kennedy had battled ear infections. (Eventually, tubes fixed up that problem.)

After a hard day at attempting to control house chaos and get things clean and sparkly, we were ready to host about 10 guests for the SuperBowl. (Kennedy's idea of cleaning often involves taking out every toy as soon as we put them away. Note to self: consider stashing the kiddo upstairs when cleaning is nearly complete...)

For Sunday feasting, Sheryl made an amazing batch of chili and I toiled over boxed cornbread. (Although, I can say with confidence, Trader Joe's makes the best cornbread on the market. Period.) We were blown away by the amount of wit and thought that went into this year's commercials (NOT!) - but did enjoy Prince's half time potty humor. It was a great time reconnecting with friends and relaxing in front of the tube, for sure.

Sadly, though, Kennedy had a pretty rough day today and (after a 2 hour wait at the clinic!) Kennedy was pronounced with her first ear infection since last year when she had the tubes in. Big sigh. We're loading her up on her proven cocktail of meds and hoping for the best. We'll see what her otolaryngologist has to say in a couple of weeks...

Finally, we've been busy with the 35mm camera and hope to have photos developed soon...
