Flip Flop
On Saturday, Kennedy was finally feeling well enough to open the most recent present from Mimi. She was so excited to find her first pair of flip-flops and a matching swimming suit. We can't wait until the weather is warm enough to try it for a swim (or at least some fountain running / wading)!
Despite the fact that Kennedy is so excited to have flip-flops, her aversion for anything touching her toes trumps putting them on without socks. Oh well - some day!
Rhododendron Garden Visit
On Saturday we went to the
Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. (For those of you who don't already know, the Rhododendron - or Rhodie - is a large bush / tree with brilliant clusters of vibrant flowers. You can see photos of these bushes at the link to the gardens above...) This was our first trip to this park and we absolutely loved it. There are several lakes / lagoons and enough ducks and geese to keep a truckload of kids busy during feeding times.
We started the visit with a trip down the path and Kennedy received obligatory skinned knees. No worse for the wear, we made our way down to a large pond full of hungry geese. You can see the cracked corn we fed them on the ground next to Kennedy.
Later, we found a long bridge that spanned one of the lagoons and Kennedy enjoyed running back and forth and chasing ducks who, for some reason, didn't enjoy the game quite as much as Kennedy... It was a beautiful day today with highs in the mid-seventies. We couldn't have had a more perfect afternoon!
Young Urban Gardner
We're excited for a low-key three day weekend. After sleeping in this morning, Kennedy and I pulled out the small flower garden that Mimi sent to Kennedy a couple of weeks ago. The kit is so cool; you simply add water to these compacted dirt disks and plant the seeds once it is reconstituted. We're looking forward to seeing them sprout!
Here we are after a job completed; Kennedy was so glad to plant the seeds and really liked the blue flower pots the best. Silly girl.
Playing Trouble
What a difference a couple of days make. This is a picture of Kennedy on Wednesday. She woke up with a 102.5 temp under the arm and said her ear hurt. Our pediatrician later confirmed it was an ear infection.
After a few days of medicine, she's right back in her game. We picked up the game "Trouble" today. We played a practice game. Later, Kennedy had her own fun with the pieces.

"Life is Good"
"Life is good" said our neighbor Joe as we sat in the park and watched our kiddos play. It was a perfect park day yesterday--sunshine and about 70 degrees. Kennedy runs around so much now that it's hard to get a photo of her!

Garden turtle
Uncle C.K. brought this garden turtle to Kennedy. She decided to put it the potted plants on our doorstep. Now, she either pats the turtle or tells us "Uncle C.K. got me that turtle" everytime we pass it.

Play Clothes
Mema and Papa Sanford gifted Kennedy some play clothes at Christmas. She has so much fun with them, especially the shoes which stay out with her other most used toys.
Susan knows the names of these Disney Princess characters. I know that the one with the brown hair is Snow White but I can only guess that the other two are Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and couldn't point either one out individually.

Library Visit
We made it to our local library today and had so much fun in the childrens room. Kennedy picked out some good books to check out and take home too.

Park Fun
After mother's day lunch, we headed to the park.
Kennedy had fun chasing her Grandpa and tickling him when she caught him.
Here she is on the swings with Grandma. This is the first time Kennedy has shown interest in swinging for a while. She loved swinging when she was a wobbler (not walkng yet), but once she started walking she wasn't as interested in swinging.
Mother's Day Activities
On Mother's Day morning we went to breakfast with Laural, Peter, April, Carol and the twins Morgan and Jason.
Then we went out to Grandpa and Grandma Andersons home. Here's Kennedy helping Granny Kay open her mother's day gift.
Mother's Day Cookies
It's been a very busy week and we haven't posted much so I'm going to make a few posts today. Susan and Kennedy spent some time last weeekend to make cookies for Grandma Anderson and Granny Kay.
Kennedy found out that the dough tastes pretty good!
She decorated all of the cookies by herself and did a great job.
Sunglasses
We're finally getting some regular sunshine.
Kennedy does not like anything on her toes. She's been sensitive about her toes from the day she was born. Consequently, clipping her nails is a major ordeal! Here she is getting some dirt out of her shoe.
Yes, we're still here!
Just a quick note to let the faithful readers know we're still here... It has been a busy week which included a fantastic (and busy!) Mother's Day, hosting a dinner party on Monday, seeing the amazing Pink Martini on Tuesday, and visiting friends / working all in between.
Photos and updates soon - we promise!!
Park Watching
When she's not running around and playing, Kennedy likes to sit in the park and watch the other kids at play.
Rosie the Cow and Goldie the Chicken
One of Susan's co-workers, Marlo, invited us to visit her at her Aunt Leah's and Uncle Mike's farm near Scholls on Saturday. We had such a lovely time. Mike and Leah have been in Oregon for many years but hail from the midwest and, like many of our friends who have made their way here from the midwest, they are salt-of-the-earth good good people. Here are Susan, Kennedy, Leah and Rosie the cow.
Here are Marlo and Kennedy meeting the chickens. Goldie the chicken was super friendly and allowed us to pet her. Kennedy wasn't at all afraid of Rosie but was a bit alarmed by Goldie.
Marlo's boyfriend Wyatt took a lot of photos. We can't wait to get them and share them too.

Greensburg, KS
It's been a sad weekend as I've sat reading about the devastation in Greensburg, KS. As a child, we'd drive through this small town all the time on the way to see my grandparents. I remember always begging my dad to stop in and go see the World's Largest Handug Well. He'd usually give in about half of the time and we'd make our way down the stairs into the bottom of the well.
When I heard that the F5 tornado took out the entire town it was a shock. Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones, businesses and homes in that area.
Popcorn Popper
We went to the park last week and someone left a popcorn popper there.
Kennedy had fun with that and pulled the popper all across the park including down the slides.
If you've ever had a popcorn popper in your house then you can probably relate, as I did, to someone leaving it in the park. They're not the quietest toy in the toy box. Kennedy has learned to swing on the bar above the slide. Good fun!

Cat Nap
As we left the house yesterday morning Kennedy said "Goodbye Elle. See you later." Pretty cute. Here she is pretending to nap on Elle's house.

Hike in the Woods
We went for a hike with Grandma and Grandpa Anderson and Toby and Lucky, the dogs, on Sunday.
Kennedy's green dragon came along with us too.
Kennedy has shown a lot of interest in climbing. And running too. She ran and ran and ran on the trails.
When she ran herself out she sat on Susan's shoulders and had us all sing songs with her like
Wheels on the Bus, the
Bumblebee song and
My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.
