Elle and Kennedy
Elle the cat sure has been buddy buddy with Kennedy lately. She's only about 6 months older than Kennedy. We wonder how they will both deal with the new addition to our family. We'll soon find out!

Park Cat
With the recent return of the sun, we've all started migrating to our local park. Elle, too, has enjoyed her freedom and tags along to our trips to the park which has earned her the neighborhood nickname of 'Park Cat'.
Here are Elle and Kennedy enjoying a recent outing.

Balloon Fun
Jan and Zoe brought some balloons over when they visited. Kennedy wanted to know why they didn't float and we talked about balloons that don't have helium in them. She entertained herself with this pink balloon for a long time, throwing it up in the air and catching it when it came down.
She was so pleased when she did catch it.

Park Fun
Grandpa Anderson drove over on Saturday to help with some big piece furniture moving. After the work was done, he walked Kennedy to the park for some play time.
It was a beautiful day. Here are Susan and Grandpa Joe enjoying some sunshine.

Bad things Disappear; Friends and Sunshine Appear
This round of ear drops and the ear infection have ended. As you can see in this picture, the drops are not a favorite of Kennedy's.
On Friday night Zoe and her mom came over for a visit. It was a nice break from working on the various house projects we have going.
We finally finished our work in the spare room and in the rooms upstairs. We've put a hold on any more big project work until after the baby is born. We got a taste for Spring this weekend with sunshine and a chance to play outside. Kennedy read one of her books on the front porch.
In other news, Susan has had 2 contractions in the past 24 hours. !

2 weeks and counting!
It's hard to believe that our new little guy will be here in just about 2 weeks. We've had to schedule a c-section (my pelvic structure prevented Kennedy from descending and we'll be facing the same issue with this baby).
The entire family (and anyone that we can recruit) have been busy helping us with the final nesting work including a new wall of closets in our guest bedroom, baby clothes sorting, laundry, etc. Of course, the list never seems to end and this weekend I'm planning to tackle the final laundering of his clothes and putting them away in the new closet, install the car seat and pack for the hospital.
Hard, too, has been transitioning my project work for a few great clients. That process is well underway and I find myself amazed at my ability to start letting go (anyone that knows me knows how much of a control freak I am and now they're all wondering who's kidnapped the real Susan - ha!).
Anyhow - just wanted to provide this quick update that all is well on the baby growing front. Watch this spot in about two weeks or so for photos of the new little guy.

The Somebody Lady
After ordering and upon drinking smoothies:
K: I like the red ones. I don't like the brown ones.
S: Have you ever had a brown one?
K: No.
S: Who had a brown one?
K: That somebody lady in front of us.
True; there was a lady in front of us who ordered two smoothies that looked brown. Kennedy is nothing but observant.
Here's a picture of Kennedy sharing her video with Elle.

Lunch with Peter and Laural
We met Peter and Laural for lunch at
Doug Fir today. Kennedy started off with a fruit bowl.
She ate a lot of the fruit and then had some strawberry jam. Guess the sugar rush got to her because next thing we knew she was lying down on the bench, kicking her feet in the air and looking at her reflection in the dome light. It was quite humorous.
Check out this photo of Susan. She thinks the baby has dropped some. I agree.

Valentines Day, Hawthorne Bridge, Zoo with the Grandparents, More Work
We swapped dinner night out with our neighbors Jan and Joe. We had Zoe over to our house on Tuesday night and they had Kennedy over to their house on Wednesday night. It was great fun for all of us. Here's Kennedy with the valentine's day crown she made at pre-school.
Kennedy asked to take her camera along on our drive downtown this week. She wanted to take a picture of the Hawthorne bridge. She is very fond of this bridge and frequently asks us to talk about it and how it functions. A really good day for Kennedy is one when we get stopped because the bridge is raising to let a boat through. Here is her photo.
We lost connection from our camera to our pc so we've been a bit light on photos. We stopped and picked up some connectors today so we are back in business. Unfortunately, we didn't get any photos of Kennedy's visit with her Grandparents Anderson yesterday. They came by, pickecd her up and took her to lunch and then to the zoo. From the sound of it, they had a blast together. This was great for us as we continued to work on the closet/wardrobe construction. We are making good progress.

Ear Update
Good news: Ear tubes still in place.
Bad news: Infection in one of her ears.
It's nice that Kennedy can communicate so well now. We appreciate that she can tell us when her ears hurt. In her early years we had to watch for signs of ear infection (crawling up on our shoulders at night; fever; ...)

Girl and Her Cat
I didn't manage to get either Elle the cat or Kennedy to look at the camera, so this photo is the best I can offer. Still, they're just so cute together.
Kennedy has been complaining about her ear hurting again. We're about 9 months past her last ear tube insertion so right in the hot zone for having them push their way out. She has an appointment with the Pediatrician this afternoon.

New Gift -- A book about Charlie Parker
Zoe brought Kennedy a gift--
Charlie Parker played Be Bop. The text is rhythmic, surprising, and full of fun. Reading it has led to conversations about types of musical instruments and what each sounds like, who in the family plays what instrument, ... One day soon we'll get to the onomatopoeia discussion. That'll be fun!
The book has two inscriptions. One is
To Kennedy Love Zoe on one side of the title page, and the other is
To Kennedy Love, Zoe on the other side of the title page. We read them each with their subtle distinctions and Kennedy says, "Zoe is my friend."

Construction Booboo
Grandpa Anderson came over Sunday afternoon and helped with the closet construction. Here he is getting busy with the sawzall.
We accomplished a lot in a short time. The cabinets are now secured to each other and to the wall. Earlier in the day Kennedy fell on one of the cabinets and scraped her nose, mouth and chin. Ouch!

Play in the Park or Help with Wardrobe Construction?
After ballet class this morning we drove by the park and saw kids out playing. There was a break in what has seemed ceaseless rain activity so the park had a lot of visitors. Kennedy asked, no, begged to go play. We felt a pang of guilt for taking Kennedy back inside our house to help us begin constructing our new closet / wardrobe. I was waiting for her to say "Where's Aunt Shelly?" She knows that Shelly will stop whatever she's doing and play with her. We're runing out of time though. The baby will be here soon! Kennedy recovered okay and joined in the work. Here she is dressed as Tinkerbell handing Susan some piece of hardware.

Domestic Partnership
Yesterday we registered a Domestic Partnership (Oregon) which affords us the same rights that are established with a marriage contract. The one right most near and dear to our hearts and timely for us is:
- Automatic parentage of non-biological parents for children born after the Domestic Partnership is established
Otherwise life goes on as normal for us. Kennedy is getting more and more independent. She wants to do everything she does by herself with only limited help from us. For the last two nights she has slept in her own bed the entire night. The camera continues to be an interest. She has learned to take pictures and videos and review them. The "red eye" light is still a bit of a challenge when taking self portraits, as you can see in this one.

Susan and Kennedy
Susan and Kennedy were dancing during the halftime of the Superbowl and stopped long enough for me to take this picture. Kennedy really likes dancing--more so since her ballet lessons began. Neighbors Joe, Jan and Zoe came by for dinner. Zoe and Kennedy are just so special. Kennedy wore herself out playing; I barely got through her bedtime stories before she was asleep.

Go Fish Go
Grandparents Anderson came over to visit and have dinner with us this past weekend and ended up in a game of Go Fish Go with Kennedy. She beat the lot of them and was pretty happy about that too! We think she's learned the game well enough that it is time to shift from playing open hands (cards are placed face up) to playing with closed hands (cards are held in hand).
