Beavers Baseball
We met the Grandparents Andersons at a Beavers' game Sunday. The Beavers are the triple AAA team associated with the San Diego Padres. Here are Kennedy and Oliver with Grandma Anderson.
Kennedy has been asking all summer if we could go to a baseball game. She learned how to yell Swing Batter Batter Swing. No lessons required on how to eat cotton candy!
Susan took Kennedy to the fun house and came back with this awesome photo of Kennedy in a stretch mirror.

Birthday Party Fun
Kennedy's friend Luci celebrated her 4th birthday with a party at Pump It Up, Jr. What a fun place for kids!
This blurry shot was about all we could get of Kennedy racing through the pumped up plastic.
Here are Kennedy and Luci in Luci's birthday throne.

Kennedy Photos
Kennedy took quite a few photos recently; this one is of Oliver's feet. We asked her why she stopped Oliver's swinging and she said she wanted to "take a picture of his feet."
She took a picture of her own feet too.
And of Oliver's face.
And finally, her own face.

These Ducks are so Hungry!
We rode to feed the ducks Friday evening. As Kennedy was feeding the ducks she kept repeating "These ducks are sooooo hungry. These ducks sure like cracked corn."
So many ducks surround us when we are feeding so Kennedy prefers to feed them then head up to higher ground to watch them eat.

Back to the Sunshine
The sun is back! After a rainy week, we were able to get outside quite a bit yesterday inbetween naps and feedings. At Oliver's morning feeding Kennedy came up with a reading solution. She picked out some Spot books and we fed Oliver a bite and read one page in the book.
Later we took a walk. Kennedy fished out this old easter dress hat.
Oliver wore his 2010 Olympic hat (winter games in Bristish Columbia).

Rabbit Kennedy
With all the rain here the past few days we decided to get out of the house and go to Ikea for lunch yesterday. The kids always have fun there and we were able to pick up a few needed items like more bibs for Oliver. Ikea is so clever with their path out to the exit. On our way we found a Rabbit bath towel/costume for Kennedy.
It wasn't raining yesterday evening so we took a bike ride down to the river. When we got home I hurried Kennedy into the bath and got her all cleaned up, or so I thought, until I took this picture and noticed that we hadn't cleaned her face! Ah well...

Crawling, Eating, Hanging Out
Oliver Del is trying hard to crawl. His arms are so strong he keeps pushing himself backwards.
He's doing great on the eating front and especially likes rice cereal mixed with a little pear.
Here's Kennedy hanging out with her brother. This is one of our favorite blankets. It was made by our friend Jean who now lives in Costa Rica when Kennedy was born.

High Desert
We picked a hot week to go to Oregon's high desert. We spent the weekend in Maupin, OR where temperatures rose to 114 and 115. By 10:00 a.m. each morning it was already 100 degrees outside. That's hot folks! We tried to find ways to cool off. One of the most popular ways was to consume otter pops. On the way home we asked Kennedy what she liked most and least about the trip. She replied, referring to otter pops, "I like the blue ones the least and the pink ones the best."
Here are Jan and Zoe and Oliver enjoying another favorite way to keep cool--small pools of water.

Tinker Toys
What a perfect name for a collection of pieces--tinker toys. We played with them a lot last week staying inside the house with temperatures outside in the 100s. We're not used to that kind of heat. We've been consciously making an effort to drive less so when it was time to go to the grocery store we slathered suntan lotion on the kids, put our hats on and packed them in the jogger. One thing shopping without a car does is make you consider how much you're purchasing. Space is limited. It was a good trip but brutally hot.

Floor Gym
Oliver, like his sister Kennedy before him, loves this Fisher Price floor gym.
He kicks and lights appear and sounds go off. So, the irritating factor is that one of the settings allows for perpetual noise--the music just plays and plays and plays. Kennedy likes this setting as she can just turn it on and go play with something else. We do not like this setting as the noise drives us crazy and Oliver just sits there staring at the gym without moving at all. We think he should work for the noise and lights!

Where's Cassious?
Kennedy stood at the door most of the morning Tuesday asking "When is Cassious going to be here?"
It's good to have them back in town, however briefly.

Summer Swinging
Kennedy has taken to pushing Oliver on the swing.

Sitting Up
Here's Oliver sitting up with the support of his chair (what is this thing called anyway?).
Kennedy and I are teaching him how to high five. He has just started touching our hand when we put it up.

Rice Cereal
Oliver had his first taste of rice cereal on Saturday. He's been curious about our eating and grabs for food items.
He wasn't crazy about the cereal, but he did get a good start at learning the mechanics of eating.

Health and Wellness Expo
We headed out of the house early for a Saturday morning and met our friends Becky and Shaun and Whitney at the Providence Bridge Pedal Health and Wellness Expo. We picked up some good bike maps and other items like suntan lotion on a string and an
I Share the Road bumper sticker... Kennedy liked the big blow-up Oregonian dalmation.
After the expo we went to brunch at
Sub Rosa. Shaun says you can rate a place by how well they do their potatoes. The potatoes here are yummy. This is a picture Kennedy took of Oliver.
These are nice profile shots of both Becky and Oliver.

Duck Feeding
We headed over to
Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden to feed the ducks. Kennedy was a little apprehensive of all the ducks at first but then got into to the swing of throwing them cracked corn.
There were a lot of hungry ducks, as you can see in this photo.

Zoo Concerts and Icee Drinks
Snow Cones and Icees are two of Kennedy's favorite drinks at the zoo concerts. Her friend Lucy had her first icee at this concert. When her Grandma asked her what it tasted like Lucy said "Juice." Aren't these two precious?
Here's Oliver before the concert. We think this is his "Don't mess with me, I'm teething" look.

New Parks
This has been a week of finding new parks to visit. There's a plethora of small parks in Portland. We didn't have to walk very far to find this one at a nearby school. There was a merry-go-round but it was in full on sun so we didn't play on it.
This park had a merry-go-round in the shade. Bonus.
There was also a very big slide which Kennedy was very happy to try out.
Here's another photo of Kennedy and Oliver.

Miss Do-It-Yourself
Kennedy prepared her own backpack for her outting with Uncle C. K. Her pack included snacks and a drink and a few small toys. Here she is just prior to leaving.

Night Out with Uncle C.K.
Uncle C. K. picked up Kennedy on Saturday night and took her to a huge party for kids and their families in Beaverton. Here's Kennedy with a snow cone.
Here she is with Tinker Bell painted on her face.
And here she is NOT with Uncle C. K. who slid down the big slide without Kennedy who was happy just to watch.
They made it home about 9:30ish. Kennedy was worn out! When she got up on Sunday morning she told her brother Oliver all about the party.

Tryon Creek State Park
We loaded up the kids and met Grandpa Anderson for a hike at
Tryon Creek State Park. Kennedy, having the map and leading the way, was our trail director.
Oliver rode in the pack. He really likes being up high enough to see everything.
There were plenty of opportunities for Troll Questions. Here's Grandpa and Kennedy conspiring on a tricky question for Oliver and the mommies.
Kennedy learned about ferns and spores (she calls them "seeds") on a camping trip exploration at Oakridge earlier this year. Here she is sharing this information with her Grandpa. Awesome!

Zoo Concerts and Old Friends
Kennedy met her old pre-school mate Lucy at the zoo concert this past week. They were so excieted to see each other.
We met our friend's Ruth (seen here with Oliver), Surah, Aurelio, and Mo (Lucy's mom) there.
It was hot early on but when the sun went down it got chilly very fast.
Speaking of old friends, Kennedy rediscovered her froggy bath towel.

"Stop that Bone"
Kennedy's toy bus has become her favorite mode of transporation around the house. Aunt Shelly got this bus for Kennedy just over a year ago. It has little people that ride as passengers and a bus driver. When you push the bus driver's head the toy sings "Stop and Go..." Kennedy first heard it as "Stop that Bone" and has sung that phrase ever since.

Oliver Needs to Learn to Share
We brought out the entertainment center and Kennedy promptly showed Oliver how everything works.
He's really good at playing with the attached toys and learned quickly how to make things spin.
We left the room to change Oliver's diaper and this is what we found when we returned:
We told Kennedy that the entertainment center is for Oliver, not for her to play in to which she replied "Oliver needs to learn to share."
