Exploring the toy chest
Oliver has become more and more mobile which is a good thing for his development but means we are once again being diligent about baby proofing and talking with Kennedy about small toys that Oliver can't play with. This weekend we put a few of Oliver's toys in a shelf at his level to serve as a goal for his explorations. It didn't take long for him to discover the books.
It was great to watch him move with intention to the book he wanted to grab and at last - succeed in getting a good hold on it.
Before Oliver could succeed in pulling the book out, however, something new caught his eye. Hello turtle!

Temperature Shifts
We spent a lot of last week in long sleeves and beenies.
This week we're on schedule to break high temperature records.

New School Dresses
Kennedy got some winter shoes, rain boots and a few new dresses for the Fall and Winter seasons. She's hard to catch with the camera these days so all we have is this blurry photo of her in one of her sitting on the couch in one of her new dresses.

First Overalls
Oliver sported a pair of Kennedy's old overalls Monday. They spare his knees from getting rug burn now that he is moving about more. Here he is crawling towards some blocks.
Gina and Megan were in town so they stopped by for a visit.

Tallest Shadow Ever
We went for dinner in the Hawthorne district when Stacey visited. When crossing a street on way back to our vehicle, Kennedy exclaimed "Look at my tallest shadow ever!"

Reading Time
Grandma and Grandpa Anderson dropped in this weekend and treated Kennedy to an afternoon at the zoo. Ever fashion conscious, Kennedy wore her "cheetah" outfit for the occasion.
After the zoo they all came home for dinner and and evening with the family. Here's Grandma reading a book to Oliver, Kennedy and Grandpa.

Crawling for toys
Oliver can get across a room without face-planting pretty easily now. This is a great relief for us. He likes having something set up for him to crawl towards. In this photo it is the
abacus we use to help Kennedy learn about counting.

Smiling at the Camera
When Oliver looks at the camera he is very curious about the red-eye light that shines just before the picture is taken. So, he ends up looking serious in the photo. In this photo the fun side of his personality is more obvious.
In food news, this week he has started eating chicken and rice, spinach and potatoes. Carrots continue to be a problem for him except in very small quantities. We haven't been brave enough to try sweet potatoes since Kennedy was so allergic to them.

Luci Visit
Kennedy's friend Luci stopped by for a brief visit this past Sunday.
It was good to see Luci, and her parents too, of course. Kennedy has really missed Luci since they went their separate pre-school ways.

Chinese Parasol
Grandma and Grandpa Anderson recently visited San Francisco and brought back a paper and bamboo parasol and dress from Chinatown for Kennedy.
The parasol is a huge hit with Kennedy.

What? Your drool doesn't reach the ground? Oliver continues to work on getting a tooth.
We are taking advantage of the recent hot days by bringing out the kiddie pool. Oliver loves being in the water.

Uncle C.K. is still the master at getting the kids to eat their food and making it a fun experience too. Here he is feeding Oliver.

Laughing
No one can make Oliver laugh as much as Kennedy can make him laugh, except maybe watching karate. We went to Kennedy's karate class last week and Oliver laughed almost uncontrollably at all the action. It was too funny...

Growing Boy
Oliver is 26 1/2 inches long and weighs in just over 16 lbs now. He's very strong and tries so hard to sit up. We heard him babble mama mama recently. We love that! He sings quite a bit, especially when he is tired. He loves rice cereal and pears. He will tolerate peas. Carrots make him sick as do bananas. Here he is in his crawl position.

Stacey's Visit
Stacey flew in for a brief visit last week. Kennedy and Oliver piled into bed with her in the mornings for a few stories.
Oliver enjoyed being carried around everywhere.
We did a lot of activities while Stacey was here. She rode bikes with us a lot and we went to the Muddy Boots festival (this picture). We all sure do miss her!

New Pre-School
After three years at the Children's Garden, Kennedy started at a new pre-school this year. The Children's Garden was a great place for Kennedy, but her new school offers second language opportunities which we believe to be important. Here's Kennedy in her new dress (compliments of her Mimi Clark) on her first day of pre-kindergarden. She wasn't at all excited about having her picture taken so this is the best we could get.

Family Reunion
We went to Aunt Sharon's and Uncle Jim's in Oklahoma for a family reunion on Labor Day weekend. Here's a photo of mom and Oliver at the silent auction tables. Aunt Sharon is in the background and cousin-in-law Quasim in the foreground.

Hello?
We visited Papa Sanford's gravesite while in Oklahoma. The headstone and bench were recently placed.
Here's Kenedy with Oliver's toy phone rattle walking around the site.
We put a
schefflera by the headstone. Dad split many a scheffie plant into a new pot. He had quite the green thumb and had many plants and gardens in his lifetime.

Cousin Jonas
Cousin Jonas and Kennedy had a great time playing together in Kansas. They ran around Mimi and Papa's house, they ran around outside the house, they just ran and ran and ran...
They even pretended to run on the treadmill. What a hoot.
Of course Papa Clark took them for a ride in the gator.

Papa the Reader
Kennedy and Papa Clark had an evening reading ritual. When he would finish one story I could hear Kennedy ask "Can we read one more?"

Tractors, Pets and Pools
One of the things Kennedy loves about visiting Mimi and Papa Clark is that they drive her around their property in their gator and other farm tractors. Here are Kennedy and Papa taking one of many property tours.
Ollie the dog was awesome with Kennedy. He's a good dog with a good spirit.
The pool was a big hit with both Kennedy and Oliver. Not long after this photo was taken Mimi put a swim diaper on Oliver and had him in the pool. He loved it!

Last of the Summer Trips
We spent the last week in Kansas and Oklahoma visiting family. Our first stop was to see Mimi and Papa Clark. Oliver really stepped up his eating and crawling movements while we were there. He's just about to put it all together and crawl crawl crawl. Go Oliver!
Here are Kennedy and Mimi hanging out and playing together, as they did much of the time we were there.
