Bike Ride and Bubble Blowing
C. K. and I took a nice bike ride Saturday afternoon along the East side esplanade to the Springwater corridor trail, over the Sellwood bridge and then made our way back onto the waterfront before heading back to the east side via the Hawthorne bridge and heading home. After dinner he took Oliver and Kennedy out for some bubble blowing and chasing--a good way to wind down their day.

More Mango Leather
I know we've talked about mango leather and how both kids love it, but here's another photo of Oliver eating a piece of it. By the time the photo was snapped it was nearly all devoured.

Oliver in a Drawer / Toy Box
We keep a lot of Oliver's toys in the drawers under our futon and often in the mornings we will find him just sitting in the drawer going through the various toy options while Kennedy watches a morning program.

Usual Activities
We are enjoying some warmer weather here and have been out and about but not too many pics have been taken. Here's Kennedy at her watering duties. She likes this task a lot.
We managed to get one of the last bags of seaweed chips at our local grocery store. Kennedy was thrilled. Oliver really likes this snack too.
Oliver continues to teeth but is otherwise enjoying the longer days and warmer weather activities.

Skuut, Duck Feeding and Playing with the Grandparents Anderson
Sunday morning Susan and I took the kids to the waterfront and tried Kennedy out skuut riding on the multi-use path. She had a lot of fun and learned about the rules of riding (stay to the right, don't cross without looking, ...)
We joked that it was a lot like when she learned how to walk. She stopped ever so often to look at things along the way. Here she is climbing some boulders.
She loved the statue of Vera Katz (Portland's former beloved Mayor) only she stuck her finger in the eye of the statue and when we expressed displeasure she said "It's okay, it's only a statue and the statue can't feel me poking its eye."
Oliver rode mostly in the stroller. We let him out on one of Kennedy's stops and he ran so fast down the path that he lost balance and got a goose egg on his forehead. Can you see it?
The Grandparents Anderson came over later in the evening. We went duck feeding and ate dinner. Here's Grandpa Anderson with Oliver. They are playing with a toy camera.

Sandbox Play and a Bee Sting
We hurried back from camping, cleaned up and went to a friend's baby shower. The kids were drawn to this sandbox in the back yard. Here's a photo of Oliver.
Kennedy played for a bit then went walking about. She stepped on a bee and got her first sting. It was pretty traumatic. Susan put some baking soda and water mixture on it and we watched her for about 15 minutes to make sure she wasn't allergic. Once this happended it was pretty much party-over as poor Kennedy was in a good deal of pain. We headed out and spent a quiet evening at home. It's all better now.

Camping!
We loaded up and drove to Stubb Stewart State Park for a brief camping trip. The park is only 30 miles away from Portland making it easy to get in and out. Susan's cousins Katrina (and Kelly) and Kirkland joined us at the site for camping, hot dog cooking and smores. Here's Kirkland with Oliver.
And here's Katrina.
Kennedy enjoyed the availability of a small park.
Oliver had a hard time going to sleep so we carried him around in the ergo for a while.

Duck Feeding
We went duck feeding earlier this week. Kennedy so loves this activity.
On this visit we were pleased to see ducklings. The geese, not so much. They're nice to look at, but are aggressive feeders and their honking scares Kennedy.

Outdoors Exploring is Fun and a Burley Trailer Sold
Oliver has enjoyed exploring outdoors this summer. It's a bit cooler than normal right now but that will change soon so we're just enjoying the heat break.
Yesterday we sold our old 2002 model Burley trailer. We got a new one last year that had jogging and strolling options. Still, even as the small family walked away with it there was a bit of sadness at watching it go! This particular Burley got around--the Coast, Oaks Park, Crystal Springs... and held it's value remarkably well. The original owners paid $399 for it, we bought it for just over $200 a few years back and just sold it for $150 (in less than 24 hours on Craig's List). I'd say Burley's, especially if they are kept in good condition, in Portland hold their value remarkably well.

Oliver News
Oliver has gotten an upper molar (right side) and is Mr. 5 Teeth now. He's also started to wear hard soled shoes. We brought out this pair of beloved boots for him. They belonged to Kennedy (a gift from her Mimi) and they were nearly worn out by her.
Oliver had fun stomping around in them.
Here are Kennedy and Oliver outside having a little tricycle playtime.

Oliver at the Door
Whenever the door is open Oliver can be seen standing at the screen looking at the action outside.
We did go outside to clean up from the 4th party and this outfit didn't stand a chance. With all the cleaning and exploring he had it dirty and soaked in water in about 30 minutes. Here's a photo just prior to our heading out the door.

BBQ and Firework Fun
We had a small gathering of old friends and family and new friends to celebrate Independence Day. Oliver's favorite foods of the day are seen here--watermelon and chicken legs.
Kennedy and neighbor Zoe spent much of the day together at one or the other's houses. Here Zoe takes a break from pedaling Kennedy around on the tricycle to smile for a photo. Kennedy is perusing her new library book loan (the graphic novel of Jack and the Beanstalk).
C.K. and Kat were our fireworks experts (along with Joe not seen in this picture).
It appears they are doing a fireworks jig in this photo.
Here are Kennedy and Zoe patiently waiting for the fireworks to begin.
Eventually Kennedy pulled up a chair for a center seat view of the firework activities.

Swimming Pool to beat the heat
The swimming pool came out today. Oliver sure enjoys the water but he likes to get in and out and in and out...
We've had a few days in the upper 90s (that's pretty hot for here). The heat is expected to continue for the next few days before we drop back into the 70s. Happy 4th of July everyone!

The Pots and Pans Band
Kennedy pulled out the pots and pans and wooden spoons and recruited Oliver into a makeshift drumming band.
As you can see, they had great fun. Kennedy said she wants to be a member of
Stomp when she grows up!

Lauralhurst Park
We went to Lauralhurst park for an outing today and the kids loved the room to run and run and run. Oliver just followed Kennedy on the path.
Oliver improved his running ability today too.
Kennedy liked this art piece, Triad, which she called "Whale". I think she's right; it does look like a whale.
They have a nice park area with swings and play structures. Here's Kennedy pushing Oliver.
Here's Oliver on his own.

Sing Along with Putumayo
The kids love to sing along and dance to a Putumayo cd entitled
Sing Along with Putumayo. One of their favorite songs is called Bananaphone. If we have one in the house, and we usually do because Oliver loves them, Kennedy grabs a banana to use as a phone.
Oliver just laughs and giggles and dances along. Lately he has been doing a great job of spinning spinning spinning around.
